The Crazies (2010)

This was the remake from the 1973 George Romero film The Crazies, and I have to say that in my opinion it is one of the few times that a re-make has surpassed the original by way of story as well as visuals.

The pacing on this remake is wonderful. It keeps the suspense level up and the characters are believable - even the ones caught in the clutches of insanity. It's an evil-government-bio-weapon flick, but not done in the same way as your standard zombie nightmare film. No zombies here, just some very disturbed people who are driven to do terrible things to each other in some pretty brutal ways.

The visuals and FX are on par with what horror audiences expect to see nowadays, but it does take a back seat to a strong story which is a bit unusual for a film in this genre.

I genuinely enjoyed it and would recommend it to any horror fan, especially those that remember the original.
