Elizabeth - The Golden Age (2007)

Ugh. I can think of no other word (or noise) to describe my feelings about this utter piece of historically inaccurate crap.

The costumes were beautiful, as one would expect when portraying the court of Queen Elizabeth I.

But like a few other films I’ve seen about specific people in history, the screenwriters decided that everyone in the world already knew all about the conflict between the Queen of England (Cate Blanchett) and the Queen of Scots (Samantha Morton), and so they didn’t bother going into any detail. Mary Stuart... sign these papers, act surprised, and go straight to the block without the audience benefiting to see a trial that might shed some light on the plot!

So visually pleasing, yes... but don’t substitute this film for a history book!

Much more historically accurate film:
