You're Next (2011)

While celebrating their wealthy parent's wedding anniversary, a large family come under attack by a group of masked killers.

Sounds like a typical horror film, right? Large isolated house, lots of people in the victim pool, and a few killers in creepy masks.

While the standard elements are all there, You're Next proves to be anything but a typical horror movie.  It's no surprise that it's hailed as being one of the shining examples of the mumblegore sub-genre, as the characers are all very well developed and the script focuses on who they are through intelligent dialog and a damned interesting story.

And there's a clever twist. Actually, a couple little surprises to be discovered as the story unfolds. It actually makes it difficult to write about it for fear of exposing any of them.

As for the bloody bits, the killers are both clever and downright brutal.  Gorehounds will not be disappointed.

In fact, the only bad thing I have to say about this film is the soundtrack, and even then just one particular song. But that's only because I couldn't get it out of my head for a few days afterward.

All and all, I was very surprised in the best kind of way, and would certainly recommend this movie to anyone who loves horror.
